PowerUp! 2019
PowerUp! 2019 is the fifth edition of the competition for start-ups in 24 Central European countries. The competition is organized by EIT InnoEnergy and the Greek part of the competition is implemented by KiNNO, the HUB of EIT InnoEnergy in Greece and in Cyprus.
Areas where solutions are particularly important and sought after: energy, mobility, cleanair, heating, cleantech, smarticities.
The competition creates a great opportunity for business development and establishing a presence on the international market.
The deadline for the application period was on the 18th of March and this year’s competition attracted a large number of applications from Start-ups from Greece and Cyprus!
2 – Day Bootcamp
After the careful evaluation of the applications, 7 teams were invited to participate in the 2-day preparatory bootcamp and the PowerUp!2019 country final in Greece.
The 2-day bootcamp took place on the 13th and the 14th of April at the offices of KiNNO. During this bootcamp every team worked closely with expert coaches and mentors on their business case and their pitch. The coaches and mentors were:

The Country Final - Greece
The PowerUp!2019 country final in Greece, was successfully completed on the 15th of April 2019 at the premises of INNOVATHENS powered by Samsung, Technopolis City of Athens (100, Pireos str. Gazi, 11854 Athens, Building Aeriofilakio 2), where the 6 of the finalists presented their business ideas in front of the jury of the competition and the audience.
The finalists had at their disposal 3 minutes to present their business idea and convince the jury. After each presentation or pitch the jury had 3 minutes for questions or comments on the presentation.

The winning team was Orama that is developing an innovative solution for managing the electrical grid with the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Triskelion, a team that is developing an innovative bicycle mechanism that reduces the effort required by the cyclist won the 2nd place and Smart Meter Anywhere, a startup that is developing low cost smart meters for off-grid applications in the developing world, won the 3rd place.
The other finalists were:
Parity Platform: A platform that connects retail investors, family offices and small funds with vetted Renewable Energy Projects in SE Europe.
Electr.io: An electric vehicle planning solution that helps cities and companies predict the location and amount of charging stations needed fast, using a newly developed methodology
Eliminatore: A new autonomous method of cleaning nets for aquaculture that utilizes the collected algae for producing biofuel.

PowerUp! 2019 Grand Final in Krakow
Orama will represent Greece in the grand finale of the PowerUp! Competition in Krakow and it will compete with the winners of more than ten country-wide finals across CEE.
The best ideas will be given the opportunity to participate in the InnoEnergy Highway®, a business accelerator that aims to commercialize sustainable energy business ideas, giving financial support and consulting services for the development of their idea worth up to € 150,000. Moreover, the European contest will highlight three winners. The first winner will receive a cash prize of € 50.000, the second € 10.000 and the third € 5,000, while all participants will benefit from new business contacts and advice from experts and professional mentors.
