The sea represents a huge source for renewable energy (Blue Energy, BE) such as waves, tides, and marine currents. Harnessing the economic potential of this energy in a sustainable manner has been also highlighted in the Commission's Blue Growth Strategy. In order to build the necessary capacity and critical mass in this emerging sector, it is necessary to involve a wide range of stakeholders.

PELAGOS project aims to establish a Mediterranean Transnational Innovative Cluster on Blue Energy that will promote novel technologies, provide a mix of support activities and foster linkages and collaborations among all the stakeholders of the Quadruple Helix Innovation Model (business-academia-public-citizens).

This range of consolidated mix of innovative services of the Cluster includes the provision of capacity building on MRE (Marine Renewable Energy) market & technology intelligence and the provision of coaching & mentoring and other support services for profiling the innovation potential on BE, identifying new business opportunities and developing BE Innovation Plans and joint-concepts resulting to investor-ready business plans. Additionally, the Cluster includes the provision of matchmaking, networking, technology transfer and brokerage services to SMEs, potential users in key maritime industries and international companies in the Mediterranean area (Open Innovation).

More specifically,KiNNO, in the framework of PELAGOS,will work to elaborate the methodology for setup & operation of the BE Cluster and to develop the skills and competences of cluster members (via On-line Platform and other tools). In addition, KiNNO is involved in business development and identification of new business opportunities & Business Growth activities (support in joint concepts development, Open Innovation Methodology elaboration etc.) and will work to strengthen R&I on BE in MED area and to integrate BE on Policy priorities towards Blue Growth (Elaboration of National strategic priorities and linkages with BE, Action Plan for the integration of BE on Regional RIS3 etc.). Finally, the company is responsible to investigate the transferability of outputs of the BE Cluster to other emerging sectors and to elaborate a plan to ensure the sustainability of the PELAGOS Cluster after the completion of the project.
